Succession has been renewed for a fourth season

There will be more backstabbing and swearing to come from the Roy family.

In news that will shock no one but delight many, black comedy/family drama Succession has been picked up for a fourth season.

The hit series' official Twitter page confirmed the news on Tuesday afternoon (26 November), with the announcement coming as the show's third season is currently airing weekly on NOW and Sky Atlantic in Ireland.

For those who have not seen the show yet (if not, why?), it centres upon the Roy family, the owners of Waystar RoyCo, a global media and entertainment conglomerate.

Dysfunctional, mean and very, very rich, its siblings are launched into a battle for control of the company following their controlling, tough patriarch Logan Roy (Brian Cox) falling ill.

While at times feeling like a contemporary re-imagining of Shakespeare's King Lear, the show comes from Peep Show co-creator Jesse Armstrong, so it's also very funny and filled to the brim with incredible insults.

You can read JOE's rave of Succession's latest season here, which our critic Rory Cashin called funnier, smarter and more vicious than ever before.

In the run-up to season three, Rory also had the pleasure of talking to a number of the show's stars, including Alan Ruck, J. Smith Cameron and Matthew Macfadyen.
