A most dramatic fallout continues…

It’s been a pretty big week in the entertainment world, so big that even things like the new James Bond title and the return of The Matrix have been overshadowed.

Sure, we have even shinier things like the small matter of a surprise Breaking Bad movie and Dublin’s own Barry Keoghan joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe to distract us, but it is in that very MCU that chaos is brewing.

Despite Sony’s best efforts to play things down, the future of Spider-Man remains uncertain.

On Tuesday, news broke that Sony and Disney had failed to reach an agreement regarding use of the character, with initial reports citing a financial dispute between the two studios.

As noted, Sony has moved to pour cold water on such reportage, contending that things are a bit more amicable than they appear.

Following that, further reports emerged that both studios are locked in a battle for the services of Jon Watts, who directed both Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Fans haven’t taken all of this terribly well, with various campaigns and petitions quickly popping up in the hope that all of this can be sorted out and Spidey can remain in the MCU.

With that uncertain future looming, Tom Holland has broken his silence and offered something of a salve for those upset.

In conversation with Entertainment Weekly on Saturday, Holland stated plainly that he, at the very least, is not done with the character.

“Basically, we’ve made five great movies,” Holland said.

“It’s been five amazing years. I’ve had the time of my life. Who knows what the future holds? But all I know is that I’m going to continue playing Spider-Man and having the time of my life.

“It’s going to be so fun, however we choose to do it. The future for Spider-Man will be different, but it will be equally as awesome and amazing, and we’ll find new ways to make it even cooler.”

Obviously the actor doesn’t make the major boardroom decisions, but his commitment might be enough to smooth things over for now.

Failing that, maybe Andrew Garfield gets another crack?
