#TRAILERCHEST: The director of Hot Fuzz and Shaun Of The Dead gets his car-chase on in Baby Driver

Rory Cashin

A musical-action-comedy-romance-thriller? That’s a first…

Welcome to #TrailerChest, where we’re taking a sneak peek at the brand new trailer for Baby Driver.

Plot’s it all about?

Writer/director Edgar Wright has a lot riding (geddit?) on this, after Scott Pilgrim VS The World made only $47 million at the worldwide box office on a $60 million budget (despite it being all kinds of brilliant), and then he eventually had to part-ways with directing Ant-Man for Disney and Marvel due to the old classic “creative differences”.

But it looks like he’s taken the brakes off (geddit?) his creativity with this one, as Baby Driver has been described as a musical-action-comedy-romance-thriller. That’s … pretty much all of the genres, right?

Anyways, Elgort plays Baby (yes, that’s really his name) is perhaps the world’s greatest get-away driver and he’s been coerced/threatened by crime-boss Spacey into the infamous One Last Job – because they always end well, right? – with a team of cut-throat bank-robbers.

But Baby is slowly realising that maybe someone is making sure this team isn’t supposed to make it out with the money alive…

Folks at the SXSW festival over the weekend got to see the world’s first screening of it, and promptly lost their collective minds over it, so consider us very excited for this one.

Starring: Ansel Elgort, Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm, Lily James, Jamie Foxx, Jon Berenthal

Directed by: Edgar Wright (Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End, Scott Pilgrim VS The World)

Irish release date: 16 August

Enjoy!
