One of the best TV shows ever is getting a new streaming home

Stephen Porzio

‘That show you like is going to come back into style.’

Twin Peaks, the seminal mystery horror-drama show that ran for three seasons between 1990 and 2017, will be getting a new streaming home courtesy of the service Mubi.

Created by the late and great David Lynch, alongside Mark Frost, the series takes place in the titular, seemingly idyllic Pacific Northwest town, which is rocked by the killing of teenage Homecoming Queen, Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee).

As quirky FBI special agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) arrives in the town to investigate the death, he unearths a disturbing darkness lurking under Twin Peaks’ tranquil facade.

A surprise hit upon its premiere, Frost and Lynch’s show quickly gathered a massive cult following thanks to its idiosyncratic mix of dark detective fiction, surreal horror elements and offbeat humour – most of which hadn’t been seen on TV before.

And though Twin Peaks was cancelled after season two amid declining ratings, it returned for a third season in 2017 titled Twin Peaks: The Return, after serious audience demand.

All 18 episodes of The Return were directed by Lynch himself, with the season earning rave reviews.

Some critics even called the third season the best TV show or movie of the decade.

As reported in multiple outlets, Mubi have said that Twin Peaks seasons one and two and The Return will be coming to the service on 13 June in Ireland, the UK and the US.

A statement from Mubi reads:

“Launching Twin Peaks alongside Twin Peaks: A Limited Event Series is a dream for MUBI, bringing one of the most loved and discussed series in TV history to the platform.

“Whilst this launch has been months in the making, the sad news of David Lynch’s death only a few weeks ago makes this opportunity to show his iconic work even more special.

“We are excited for the Lynch fans in our membership to revisit the episodes comprehensively, as well creating an opportunity for new audiences to discover it for the first time.”

And if you don’t want to wait until 13 June, the three seasons of Twin Peaks are also streaming on Paramount+ right now.
