Guns, cops and gangsters – what a perfect combination for a January movie. Starring Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Nick Nolte and Sean Penn, Gangster Squad is set in the 40’s and 50’s and based on a true story.

The story involves some cops doing whatever they can (illegal as it may be), to keep LA free from the nasty gangsters floating about.

The movie tag line says it all; No names, No badges, No mercy.

Emma Stone plays a foxy gangster’s moll as Grace Farady. Trouble is she also gets involved with Gosling’s character, Sgt Jerry Wooters.

Conflict of interest anyone?

Sean Penn plays notorious gangster Mickey Cohen, Stone’s other lover.

According to The Daily Mail, director Ruben Fleischer said, ‘I think Sean wanted to really make him his own. So he took pieces of the real Mickey that he connected with and then also filled in his own ideas of who the guy is. It’s not like an impression of Mickey Cohen but more a realisation of him.’

Apparently the movie was set for release in September 7, 2012, but was moved back due to the theatre shooting in Aurora, Colorado on July 20.

The movie trailer showed scenes of the characters shooting submachine guns at the movie going audience through the screen of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.

The trailer was pulled and reportedly the scene was replaced and reshot to move the placement of the shootings.

The movie will be released on January 11th, 2013 nationwide.
