VIDEO: JOE talks to Oscar-winning director Ron Howard about naked directing and making Apollo 13’s cousin

Paddy McKenna

He’s made some incredible movies.

From Apollo 13 to Backdraft, from Rush to the Oscar-winning A Beautiful Mind, Ron Howard is a movie director that understands the human desire for adventure.

His new movie, In The Heart Of Sea, tells the true story of the New England whaling ship Essex, which was attacked by a monstrously large and very narked albino whale. It charts the exploits of sailors who left their families for years at a time to tackle these giant creatures in tiny rowboats, armed only with harpoons.

Ahead of the Irish cinema release of the movie on December 26, JOE sat down with Ron to discuss getting naked on set and why he thinks this movie is a cousin to Apollo 13…

We also caught up with American actor, Benjamin Walker who plays the role of George Pollard, Captain of the ill-fated Essex. The man can does a pretty decent Montgomery Burns impersonation…

And if that wasn’t enough, check out our interviews with cast members Chris Hemsworth, Cillian Murphy and Tom Holland.

In The Heart Of The Sea opens in Irish cinemas on St. Stephen’s Day.
