None of these folks have ever had to interview Davy Fitz before an All-Ireland final so they have yet to reach the very top level of sideline reporting’s toughest tasks, but they have endured some other trials.

From footballs and baseballs to the head, to players flying into them, to over familiar players, fans and mascots it has to be one of journalism’s most dangerous jobs.

So the next time you see Joanne Cantwell, or Chris Kamara, or Tony O’Donoghue on your screens, bow your head and pay your respects. They are all just seconds away from one of these every day they go to work.
