The Impossible tells the difficult true story of a family caught in one of the world’s worst natural disasters – the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami.
by Genna Patterson
Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts star as a British couple with three children on holiday when the disaster strikes. The real life story was actually about a Spanish family but they are portrayed as British in this movie.
The family begins their Christmas holidays in Thailand, planning to spend a couple of days at the tropical resort. On December 26, 2004, the tsunami hits, and the family are separated. They then must try, in a chaos zone to reunite with each other.
With a story like that you may need to break out the man-size tissues. A family torn apart? Trying to reunite? Ah here, its like the movie bosses are trying to make us cry.
If you need to release all that tension from a family-heavy Christmas, maybe go see this movie and let it all out.
The title, The Impossible is reportedly due to the ending, which would seem utterly unbelievable if it weren’t a true story.
Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor team up again, having filmed 2005’s thriller, Stay with Ryan Gosling.
The Impossible is released on January 1, 2013.
