The countdown is on… seven months until the greatest movie ever made is released in cinemas

Imagine Die Hard… except John McClane is actually Santa Claus…

About four years ago, we took a big swing on a movie, claiming it to be the best movie that would ever be made. It involved Jason Statham fighting a giant prehistoric shark, it was called The Meg, and for about three minutes of the movie’s runtime, we were 100% correct.

But we’re not afraid to risk it all again, so we’re going all in: Violent Night is going to be the greatest movie ever made.

The official plot synopsis is as follows: “A group of mercenaries attack the estate of a wealthy family on Christmas Eve, and Santa must save Christmas.”

Sounds like it might be a bit of a cheap action comedy, right? Turns out that couldn’t be further from the truth. First up, in a bit of spot-on casting, Santa will be played by David Harbour (Stranger Things, Black Widow), and the supporting cast features John Leguizamo (Romeo & Juliet, Encanto), Cam Gigandet (Twilight, Easy A), Beverly D’Angelo (National Lampoon’s Vacation, American History X) and Alexis Louder (Copshop, The Tomorrow War).

It is being produced by David Leitch and Kelly McCormick (the folks behind John Wick, Atomic Blonde and Nobody), and the first footage for the movie was screened this week at Cinema Con in Las Vegas, with reports suggesting it is “super violent” and “escapism that will also make you sweat“.

To be fair, we haven’t had a great action movie set at Christmas since… well… the first Die Hard movie, and that comparison alone is enough to get us very, very excited.

Violent Night is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 2 December 2022. Obviously we don’t have a trailer just yet, so instead, here’s the start of Scrooged, where we get a trailer for fake Christmas action movie The Night The Reindeer Died.
