WATCH: Colin Farrell is in deep trouble in deep space in the first trailer for Voyagers

The new sci-fi thriller is set to launch in cinemas this year.

As movies are often prone to telling us in the most vivid fashion imaginable, space is a dangerous place to be.

Not only does the vast expanse of nothingness pretty much want to kill you as quickly as possible, you’ve also got to take into account the people you’re heading out there with.

That is the primary problem for Colin Farrell in his new movie Voyagers, which finds him on a claustrophobic, futuristic spaceship, with a crew full of younger astronauts who all seemingly go a bit nuts simultaneously.

Here’s the official synopsis:

“With the future of the human race at stake, a group of young men and women, bred for intelligence and obedience, embark on an expedition to colonise a distant planet. But when they uncover disturbing secrets about the mission, they defy their training and begin to explore their most primitive natures. As life on the ship descends into chaos, they’re consumed by fear, lust, and the insatiable hunger for power.”

Written and directed by Neil Burger, who previously directed Bradley Cooper-thriller Limitless and Bryan Cranston-drama The Upside, his new movie puts Farrell on board with some great young talent including Tye Sheridan (Ready Player One), Lily-Rose Depp (Savage), and Fionn Whitehead (Dunkirk).

Voyagers is due to land in US cinemas this April, but we should expect to see it in Irish cinemas once they’ve been safely reopened later this year.
