VIDEO: Coldplay say that this Donegal singer’s version of ‘Violet Hill’ is better than their original

Conor Heneghan

That’s a fairly ringing endorsement.

Coldplay are like the marmite of the music world; you either love them or you hate them, but regardless of your own preferences, what can’t be denied is their huge popularity worldwide.

The band’s Twitter account, for example, has just under 17 million followers, which means that an awful lot of people will have been alerted to a fantastic singer from Donegal called Eve Belle this weekend.

Eve recently performed a cover of the Coldplay song ‘Violet Hill’ on I Lár an Aonaigh on BBC Northern Ireland, a performance that caught the attention of many people, including the band themselves.

So impressed were the band, in fact, that they posted a video of it on their Twitter account (twice!) with the highest praise possible for the singer-songwriter from singer Chris Martin and so-called “fifth member” Phil Harvey.

Remember the name folks, we’ve a feeling you might be hearing it quite a lot in the future.

If you liked what you heard, you can check out Eve Belle on Facebook and Twitter.

Cheers to Seán Ó Baoill for sending this our way. Got a story for JOE? Hit us up on Facebook or Twitter, send it to our WhatsApp number 087-4001102 or mail [email protected].
