A teenage boy has drowned while attending a popular music festival in Co Leitrim.
The incident happened at the Ballinamore Family Festival and is being treated as a tragic accident.
The 19-year-old has been named locally as Alan Creamer, from Rooskeynamona, Mohill, Co Leitrim.
In a statement, festival organisers said they were “deeply saddened” by the tragedy.
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those affected and with everyone who is hurting at this very difficult time.
“Thank you for your understanding, compassion and respect at this time.”
As a mark of respect, organisers cancelled the fireworks that had been planned for the festival’s closing night.
In a tribute posted on RIP.ie, Alan’s family wrote: “It is with heavy hearts, we share the sudden, tragic loss of our beloved Alan.
“Alan left us far too soon. His bright smile and kind heart will stay with us forever.”
The Co Leitrim festival has been running for more than 60 years with previous performers including Mike Denver, Derek Ryan and Sean Magee.
Alan’s death is the second recent drowning tragedy in the wider area.
On Tuesday, August 11, 28-year-old James Fanthorpe McHugh died after falling into the Annalee River in nearby Ballyhaise, Co Cavan.
Mr McHugh, who was from Ballyhaise, is believed to have got into difficulty after falling into the water while fishing.
