A meeting for a notorious men’s rights activist group will take place in Naas this Saturday

Conor Heneghan

Naas is one of 165 locations around the world selected to stage the meetings this Saturday.

The notorious men’s rights activist group, Return of Kings, have selected Naas as one of 165 locations in 43 countries to stage a series of meetings this weekend.

The group is led by a man known as Daryush Valizadeh, AKA Roosh V, who has become infamous for a number of misogynistic and highly controversial statements in the past, most notoriously his view that rape should be legal under certain circumstances.

A post on the Return of Kings website has instructed hosts of the meetings to wait at the meeting point at every location from 8-8.20pm local time on Saturday evening before moving on to the final location. The main entrance of the courthouse has been determined as the meeting point in Naas.

Those who want to attend the meeting have been given a question and response that they can use in conversation with other people they suspect are there for the meet-up and arriving within the designated window is regarded as paramount.

Naturally, the meetings have attracted lots of opposition at home and abroad.

In Scotland, for example, the Guardian report that approximately 50,000 people have signed a petition to ban similar meetings in Glasgow and Edinburgh, while in Ireland, there has been understandable anger and opposition in social media circles.

We sincerely hope that nobody turns up for the meeting in Naas on Saturday evening or if people do, that it is as a form of protest.

Cheers to the girls at Her.ie for their help this one.
