Funeral of Ashling Murphy to take place today

Gardaí are anticipating a large attendance.

The funeral of Ashling Murphy is set to take place today (18 January).

Funeral Mass will be held in St. Brigid’s Church, Mountbolus, at 11am and burial afterwards in Lowertown Cemetery, Mountbolus.

The funeral cortege will leave Ashling Murphy’s home at 10.30am so as to arrive at St Brigid’s Church, Mountbolus for 11am.

An Garda Síochána anticipates that this funeral will attract a large attendance.

People planning on attending are asked to assist Gardaí and stewards with parking.

Car parking will be provided as follows:

• Traffic from Tullamore will be directed into Killoughey GAA grounds.
• Traffic from Birr/Idle corner will be accommodated in a green field site at Murray’s.
• Traffic arriving via Ballyboy will be accommodated in a green field site at Daly’s.

Gardaí will be on duty in Mountbolus to manage traffic and parking.

An Garda Síochána are reminding attendants that Covid-19 continues to be a significant Public Health concern.

Public Health advice remains that persons unable to social distance or in crowded outdoor areas should wear appropriate face coverings.

The Murphy family has requested “privacy, space and time” to process the 23-year-old’s death.
