Tributes paid to Irish woman who died in London bus crash

Tributes are being paid to a woman from Galway who died in a bus crash at Victoria Bus Station in London. The Metropolitan Police have said officers were called just before 9am on Monday (29 January) to reports of a collision involving a bus and a pedestrian. Despite the efforts of the emergency services, the pedestrian died at the scene. She has been named by the Metropolitan Police as 56-year-old Catherine Finnegan, who also said in a statement that she was originally from the Irish county.

The driver of the bus, a woman in her 40s, was also taken to hospital and later discharged. Paying tribute to Catherine, her family said:
"Our beloved daughter, sister, partner, most adored auntie and treasured friend Catherine Finnegan, known as Kathleen, lost her life on 29th January 2024. "She will be remembered as a very unique lady who had the fast Irish wit and who made her family and friends so very proud of her bright, clever personality. "She was a whirlwind in any room and lit up this world with her energy, enthusiasm for life and joy. She will be forever in our hearts."
Catherine's family continue to be supported by officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit. The Metropolitan Police have said their investigation into the bus crash continues, stating "any witnesses who have not yet come forward are asked to call 020 8543 5157 quoting CAD 1417/29Jan".
