The gift of giving can be a great thing.

Christmas FM is somehow still broadcasting despite it being the middle of January, which is beyond unacceptable at this stage.

However, there’s a wholesome twist in this festive tale, considering the fantastic charity work that has come off the back of a dedicated fundraising campaign.

The hugely popular yuletide-themed radio station has raised €404,551 for Temple Street Children’s Hospital, which will be used to give the gift of life to over 1,000 critically ill babies and children.

The funds will go towards purchasing new state-of-the-art lifesaving equipment such as incubators and ventilators.

Since its inception in 2008, the station has raised close to €2 million for various charities in Ireland.

Chief Executive of the Temple Street Foundation Denise Fitzgerald noted that she and her organisation are “completely overwhelmed” with the result of the campaign.

“The goodwill and generosity of individuals, families, companies and communities up and down the country is hugely uplifting and will bring real and lasting difference to sick children in our critical care wards,” said Fitzgerald.

“On behalf of all of us here in Temple Street I would like to thank the team in Christmas FM for choosing us to be part of this very special campaign, as well as each and every person who donated to support the hospital over the festive season.”

Christmas FM is funded through sponsorship and run each year by more than 100 volunteers on-air, who devote hundreds of hours of their time.

Previous charity partners have included Sightsavers, ISPCC, Barnardos, Simon, Age Action, Aware, Make-A-Wish Ireland and Focus Ireland.

Congratulations to all involved.

But seriously, it’s the middle of January. Enough!
