What we know about the Dublin scrapyard fire

The alarm was raised at around 3.20pm on Thursday at the scrapyard in Wimbletown, near Ballyboughal in Fingal, with smoke visible across the capital.

Eight units of Dublin Fire Brigade are at the scene, including five fire engines, a foam tender and two water tankers.

Meath fire service also sent one fire engine and a water tanker to assist.

A senior officer is directing the operation and residents affected by the smoke have been asked to close all windows and doors, as RTE News reported.

The plume drifted towards Dublin Airport, around 10 kilometres away, but the Dublin Airport Authority said operations were not affected.

It added that AirNav Ireland is advising pilots on approach to be cautious of the smoke.

The senior officer at the scene warned the operation would be a lengthy one.

This will be a protracted incident and we expect to be on scene for the foreseeable future.

Dublin Fire Brigade said crews would remain in place into the evening, with The Journal reporting the blaze was still being brought under control. No injuries had been reported at the time of writing.
