It comes after the father refused to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for one year.
The father of Enoch Burke has been jailed for two months for assaulting a Garda.
According to RTÉ News, Sean Burke – aged 60 and of Cloonsunna, Castlebar, Mayo – was found guilty in 2023 of assaulting Garda Victoria Fisher in the Four Courts.
The incident occurred during a hearing in the case of his son Enoch, who is currently in prison for contempt of court.
The news outlet reports that though Sean Burke had been spared a conviction and would have no criminal record because he had been given the Probation Act, he appealed the verdict via Circuit Court.
After a hearing lasting three days, RTÉ News states that he lost the case – with Judge Ronan Munro convicting him of assaulting the garda.
The judge did not accept that knocking down the garda was accidental and sentenced Sean Burke to two months in prison.
RTÉ News also states that the judge suspended the sentence on the condition that the father sign a bond to be of good behaviour for one year.
Not accepting the verdict, Sean Burke refused to do this and as such, the judge ordered that he would serve the sentence.
Sean Burke’s daughter Ammi, however, won her appeal against her conviction for obstructing a garda amidst the same incident.
