You could end up being liable…

Fingal County Council has warned its constituents that there is an “unauthorised rubbish collector” doing the rounds.

In a statement on their Twitter account, the council wrote: “There is an illegal waste collection service being offered in the Balbriggan area. Never give your rubbish to an unauthorised waste collector, it can end up being illegally dumped and you could receive a fine or court appearance.”

The council further shared an advertisement being used by the operation, which offers “free recycling” for appliances such as microwaves, kettles, freezers, lawnmowers, gaming consoles, and “all brick a brac”.

The advertisement also stipulates that the service is free, and that those involved will “do any heavy lifting”.

The unlicensed service, however, will not take broken fridge freezers, rubbish, sofas or mattresses.

However, the warning from Fingal County Council clearly says that anyone who does give their rubbish to an unlicensed collector could end up being liable if their waste gets illegally dumped.
