No Road Deaths But 1,590 Caught In Garda Road Policing Operation
There were no road deaths in the first two days of the Garda road policing operation over the August Bank Holiday weekend, but gardáí still caught more than 1,590 drivers speeding across the country.
The worst speeds caught by the Garda road policing operation
Some of the most serious speeds were logged on Friday: 172km/h in a 120km/h zone on the M1 at Greenfields, Swords, Co Dublin; 142km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N24 at Piltown, Co Kilkenny; and 127km/h in an 80km/h zone on the R428 at Stradbally, Co Laois. Others included 126km/h in Clonmel, Co Tipperary and 115km/h on Dublin’s Clontarf Road.
With the operation continuing until Tuesday, gardáí are urging all road users to slow down and make safety a priority for the rest of the bank holiday. For more Irish news, stay with us.
