Gardaí issue update after discovery of skeletal remains in Wexford

A post mortem has been carried out.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána has issued an update on yesterday’s discovery of human remains in Co. Wexford.

A Post Mortem examination was carried out today, Tuesday 8th January 2019 at University Hospital Waterford on the body discovered at Ballyandrew, Co Wexford yesterday morning, Monday 7th January 2019. The Post Mortem was carried out by the Deputy State Pathologist Dr. Linda Mulligan.

It has been established that the body is that of a female in her 50s and has been there for approximately 12 months.

Gardaí are now waiting on the results of a toxicology scan, but as of now there is no suggestion of suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

Gardaí began investigating when a passing pedestrian found what appeared to be skeletal remains at Ballyandrew, near Ferns, in Wexford.

The woman in question has not yet been identified and DNA tests are underway. Investigating Gardaí are continuing to appeal for information in relation to this matter and any person with information is asked to contact Enniscorthy Garda Station on 053-9242580, the Garda Confidential Line 1 800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
