This new law in Iowa will make US gun laws even more messed up

Tony Cuddihy

This is well and truly f*cked up.

Lawmakers in the state of Iowa have passed a bill that would allow children aged 14 and younger to handle firearms.

A bill has passed the state House of Representatives by 62-36 that would allow children to possess a pistol, a revolver or ammunition under ‘parental supervision.’

State Representative Kirsten Running-Marquardt said that “We do not need a militia of toddlers,” as she balked at a bill that “allows for 1-year-olds, 2-year-olds, 3-year-olds, 4-year-olds to operate handguns.”

The sponsor of the bill, Rep. Jake Highfill, said the amendment was in place in order to correct an “injustice in Iowa code” that forbids kids under 14 from handling firearms.

“Allowing people to learn at a young age the respect that a gun commands is one of the most important things you can do,” Highfill told The Washington Post.

He said that the alternative is “turning 18 with no experience.”

Because the ultimate crime would be turning 18 without experience of handling a deadly weapon.

F*cked up.
