The Irish public have been left shocked as a fridge staple is being security tagged in supermarkets.
That's right, Kerrygold butter has been seen in supermarkets with security tags and stickers - likely due to the item being a prime target for stealing.
The price of the 454g block of dairy goodness has continued to rise over the past five years, now coming in just under a fiver at €4.99 per block.
This is compared to the retail typical price of between €3.50 and €4.00 in 2020.
The public are stunned at the butter being secured with tags and stickers, with one asking: "Is this the new norm?"
"Good Lord. Next there’ll be one of those dye-spraying yokes attached," replied one user.
Another wrote: "Can't bait the taste of kerrygold (not that I could afford that fancy butter.. that stuff is loaded with nutrients. I have to settle for Lidl brand."
One Reddit user dubbed 'butter theft' a 'dire economic indicator'.
