Irish Water Safety issue Christmas swimming warning

Carl Kinsella

It’s a long-standing tradition that avid swimmers will go for a dip in the 40-foot on St. Stephen’s Day…

But as always, Irish Water Safety has made it clear that anyone who fancies freezing their bollocks off in the Irish Sea this festive season should be very careful when doing so.

Chairman Martin O’Sullivan has said nobody should swim alone over the Christmas period, and organise swimming groups. O’Sullivan also said that groups should try to have a lifeguard present when swimming in the open water.

Inclement weather has already caused disruption to ferry timetables, and swimmers are advised to check their local conditions before they venture out into the water.
