A major industrial estate fire has been brought under control in Waterford.
The blaze broke out yesterday evening around 6.30pm at the old Jute Factory on Tycor Avenue in the Tycor area of Waterford city.
Fire brigades from Waterford City Fire Service, Tramore, Dunmore East, Portlaw and Dungarvan were deployed to combat the blaze.
Emergency services remained at the site during the night in an attempt to control the fire and it is understood nearby homes were evacuated.
Fortunately, no casulties have been reported, although Waterford City and County Council said the building has been extensively damaged.
This morning, emergency services are continuing operations at the site and the public are advised by the council to avoid the area.
Sinn Féin TD for Waterford, David Cullinane, said the fire was 'deeply frightening and upsetting' for the local community.
He commended the emergency services 'for their courage and professionalism in responding to this serious fire and protecting the public'.
