Man dies in hospital following fatal Dublin assault

Gardaí have made an arrest in relation to the incident.

A man has died in hospital after a violent assault took place in Dublin in the early hours of this morning.

Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene at Drumcairn Estate in Tallaght at around 4am.

A 20-year-old man was found with several stab wounds, and was transported to Tallaght University Hospital.

He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Gardaí have arrested a 35-year-old man. He is currently detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, at a Garda Station in the Dublin area.

Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are currently at the scene of a fatal assault which occurred at a location in the Drumcairn Estate, Tallaght, Dublin 24, in the early hours of Friday 26th July 2024.

“A male was conveyed from the scene to Tallaght University Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

“A male has been arrested and is currently detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, at a Garda Station in the Dublin area. No further information is available at this time.”

They are now appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly those who were in the Drumcairn Estate area of Tallaght, Dublin 24, between 3am and 4am this morning.

Gardaí are now trying to establish a motive for the attack. A van appears to have been broken into at the scene, and detectives are trying to establish if it is connected to the fatal attack.
