Don’t give up on summer just yet.
Met Éireann have offered a silver lining for the upcoming weather forecast as Ireland makes a very wet start to September.
The country has seen a mix of heavy rain, showers and cooler temperatures this morning (Monday, September 2) as summer well and truly winds down for another year.
However, the extended forecast for the month ahead sees some bright spots approaching.
This week will be dominated by low pressure close to the south and east of Ireland, bringing generally unsettled through the week with spells of rain and showers.
However, dry spells may follow soon, with some high pressure coming from the northwest.
During the second week of September, indications suggest that low pressure will move further away from Ireland, allowing a drier easterly airflow to become established.
There will be a few showers at times but overall rainfall amounts will be near or below average and temperatures will remain near the norm also.

Met Éireann offer silver lining as miserable weather dominates start of September
From the third week of the month onwards, rainfall averages are expected to return to normal, and temperatures may go above average.
The final week in September will see the return of low pressure, introducing a more unsettled conditions.
More frequent spells of rain will lead to slightly above average rainfall amounts across the country while temperatures are indicated to fall back to approximately normal.
It should be noted that beyond two weeks, forecast predictions become unpredictable and can change.
That being said, it looks like we’re set for quite an unsettling September, but that brief high pressure may give us a small respite from the oncoming autumn weather.
