There may be good news on the weather front soon.

It’s fair to say it hasn’t been the best of starts to April, as Storm Kathleen can attest to. However, amid the miserable weather, there is some good news on the horizon, with Met Éireann pinpointing when warm weather is set to return.

According to the national forecast, a front of high pressure is heading towards Ireland and should be hitting by the end of the month.

Despite conditions continuing to be unsettled – rain will be present for the days to come across the country – temperatures will slowly climb throughout the week, with Thursday seeing highest temps of around 18C.

In their overview for the week ahead, Met Éireann said: “It’ll continue mild for the next couple of days and nights, with above average temperatures, before turning cooler at the weekend.

“It will remain changeable, with further spells of rain or showers at times, but some dry bright weather too, the best of this in the east and southeast.”

Before Storm Kathleen hit last week, weather expert Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather on Twitter/X told his followers that “while we have a lot of bad weather ahead over the next few days the weather models are still offering hope of a change of weather patterns around the middle of the month.

“High pressure could build close to Ireland but long way off yet so fingers crossed.”

In an update on Monday, April 8, O’Reilly said: “It’s not looking perfect or beautiful weather but it is looking very much like an improving situation from end of this week.

“That signal for a change in weather patterns from middle of month looks to be holding.”

As for today, Tuesday, April 9, Met Éireann say that it will be bright & breezy with some spells of sunshine & scattered showers, frequent at times in the north, east, & midlands.

Temperature highs of 8 to 12°C in moderate to fresh & occasionally gusty northwest winds, which will ease later in the day.
