Met Eireann’s very mixed weekend forecast predicts heavy rain and sunny spells

A real mixed bag.

Met Eireann‘s forecast for the weekend features heavy rain and wind alongside high temperatures.

The unusual forecast pinpoints which areas of Ireland are in for some torrential showers with strong winds coming in off the coast.

The East of the country will see the best conditions of the weekend. Although there will be showers, we’re also in for some sunny spells.

Here’s what the weekend forecast says:

Friday

Mostly cloudy this morning with showers or longer spells of rain, mainly in Connacht and Ulster.

This afternoon, showers will become confined to the west and northwest and will become isolated this evening. Some sunny spells are expected later on, the best of which will be seen in the east.

It’ll be a warm, humid and breezy day with highs of 19 to 23 degrees and fresh, gusty southerly winds.

Friday night

Any lingering showers will die out early tonight becoming dry and clear for a time.

However, heavy showery rain will develop in the southwest along with strong winds tonight.

Southeasterly winds will be moderate to fresh elsewhere and overnight temperatures will range from 13 to 16 degrees.

Saturday July 8th

Conditions will be windy on Saturday with fresh to strong southerly winds developing in all areas – very windy at times along the south and west coast.

Showery rain is expected in the south in the morning but it will move northwards across the country during the day.

Rain may be heavy in parts early on in the afternoon but winds will moderate later in the afternoon as the rain clears to sunny spells with just one or two showers following. Highest temperatures will range from 17 to 21 degrees.

Saturday night will be largely dry and clear with winds easing to a light southerly breeze. Later in the night, heavy showers will move up into the south but things will be cooler than previous nights with lows of 9 to 11 degrees.

Sunday July 9th

Sunday will see a bright start with a few showers in places.

These showers will become widespread and increasingly heavy in the afternoon and evening, with thunderstorms likely in parts.

Winds will be mostly light, although gusty at times due to showers and Highest temperatures will range from 17 to 21 degrees.

Showers will clear early Sunday night, however rain will later develop in the south and west. Lows of 10 to 13 degrees.
