The opening is part of Primark’s commitment to invest €250 million in Ireland over the next 10 years.

A new Penneys store has officially opened in Tallaght in Dublin following a €10 million investment.

In a statement, the retailer said the new location has resulted in the creation of 300 jobs for the area and is part of its commitment to invest €250 million in Ireland over the next 10 years.

The first new Penneys store in Dublin in six years and the retailer’s 37th in Ireland, it is based on the ground floor of the Square Shopping Centre.

It becomes one of the largest fashion stores at The Square, with 43,500 square feet of retail space and an in-store beauty salon operated by Nails.

The new store was opened on Thursday by Taoiseach Micheál Martin, who said: “Penneys is at the centre of Irish and international retail and its success continues to prove how valued the brand is in our lives in Ireland.

“The jobs announced today are a testament to Primark’s strength and continued growth.

“Penneys is a significant employer in Ireland and internationally, and its growth brings footfall back to our towns and cities in Ireland.

“I congratulate all at Primark on today’s opening in Tallaght and wish this beloved retailer continued success.”

The new store follows Penneys recently announcing a price freeze on more than 1,000 children’s products in store in response to the ongoing cost of living crisis in Ireland.

The prices are set to remain in place for the autumn period.
