Penneys to freeze prices on over 1,000 children’s products in response to cost of living crisis

Welcome news for parents with the new school year around the corner.

Penneys has announced a price freeze on more than 1,000 kids' products in store in response to the ongoing cost of living crisis in Ireland. The prices are set to remain in place for the autumn period, just in time for back to school. “Offering the very best value to our Penneys customers has always been at the heart of our brand, and it’s more important than ever today," said Damien O’Neill, Head of Penneys Ireland and NI. "Kids grow fast, and replacing their clothing is an essential task for families – we hope that by protecting the prices on our essential kids’ items we can help in some small way, particularly as we enter the costly back to school season.” Below are the prices for some essential products for kids aged between 1.5 and 8 years old that will be frozen as a result of the Penneys announcement.

• Padded Jacket: from €18
• Briefs: from €5.00 for a 10 pack
• Socks: from €3.50 for a 10 pack

The cost of living continues to be a source of controversy in Ireland, with a number of protests nationwide taking place last month. Earlier this week, McDonald's Ireland confirmed that it will be increasing the cost of select items on its menu, including its classic cheeseburger. In effect from Wednesday, McDonald's will be raising the cost of its cheeseburger for the first time in over 14 years, taking it from €1.50 to €1.70. Other price rises will impact select McDonald's offerings including breakfast meals, main meals, large coffees, McFlurrys, the Chicken Mayo, the McNuggets share box and some Go Large options. As these prices are set by each individual franchise, they will vary from restaurant to restaurant. The fast food chain also added that some products will be unaffected, such as McDonald's wraps and its salad range.
