Met Éireann issues status yellow thunder warning for 9 counties

Brace yourselves, it's about to get stormy out there.

Following on from Tuesday afternoon's status yellow rainfall warning for three counties - that would be Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan - Met Éireann has issued another notable advisory.

As of 2pm on Tuesday, a second status yellow warning is in effect, this time concerning thunder.

The warning has been issued for Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Longford, Louth, Meath, Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo.

Heavy thundery downpours are to be expected throughout the afternoon and evening along with a risk of localised flooding.

The warning is valid until 9pm on Tuesday night.

According to the UK's Met Office, there are also several warnings in place across the north of Ireland. Rain and thunder is expected in Belfast, Ballymena, Craigavon, Dungannon, Strabane, Cookstown, Downpatrick, Newtownstewart, Slieve Rushden and Ballymoney.

There is also a small craft warning for Ireland's coastal waters as of midday today. Southwest winds are expected to reach force 6 today on Irish Coastal Waters from Wicklow Head to Hook Head to Mizen Head.
