Weather warnings still in place but thankfully we could see a big thaw today

Snow

Snow, it’s been eventful, now very kindly feck off…

The Beast from the East has passed over the country and will live long in people’s memories for turning Ireland into a winter wonderland, convincing a small bunch of people it’s OK to loot and reaffirming that despite all the many options out there, bread remains the number one baked good in Irish people’s hearts.

Met Éireann has predicted that today will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain as much milder temperatures will bring about a thaw around most of the country.

Temperatures are expected to be between 3 and 6 degrees across the country which could lead to an accelerated thaw and raising fears of flooding in some areas.

The snow will continue to melt and result in some localised areas of surface water.

Met Éireann have said today will be:

Mostly cloudy today with scattered outbreaks of rain. The rain will be persistent at times – especially near east and south coasts, and may be of sleet over high ground. Temperatures will recover to maxima ranging from 3 to 6 degrees. Lying snow and ice will continue to melt resulting in localized areas of surface water. Moderate northeast winds.

While overnight, temperatures may touch zero degrees in some areas with some sharp ground frost forming.

It will be even milder on Monday with temperatures ranging between 5 and 8 degrees with continued snow melt adding to surface water.
