51-year-old Thanh Phan died after being hit by the e-scooter in Perth last month.
A British backpacker is facing up to 20 years in prison after a fatal e-scooter crash.
Alicia Kemp was riding an e-scooter in Perth last month when she hit 51-year-old Thanh Phan, who later died in hospital from brain injuries caused by the crash.
The 24-year-old is said to have spent six hours drinking before stepping on the scooter and hitting the man in Perth’s central business district on May 3.
Furthermore, Kemp’s passenger, a 26-year-old woman, was thrown from the scooter, suffering a fractured skull and broken nose.
Kemp appeared in court in the Australian city where she was denied bail and charged with dangerous driving occasioning bodily harm and dangerous driving occasioning death.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, her application for bail was denied after prosecutors told the magistrate there was too high a risk of her fleeing in the face of a 20-year maximum sentence.
Mr Phan was described by his family as a ‘beloved husband, father of two, brother, and dear friend.’
His family called for a review of e-scooter hire regulations ‘to help prevent further serious incidents that put lives at risk.’
The court heard that Kemp had been out drinking from 2.30pm the day of the incident.
When she and her friend were asked to leave due to being too drunk, allegedly they walked along Murray Street and hired an e-scooter shortly before 8.30pm.
The prosecution said the young woman’s ‘inexplicably dangerous’ driving could be seen on CCTV, with other pedestrians having to move out of the way to avoid being hit.
She was travelling at a speed of 25 kilometers per hour at the time of the collision. Mr Phan was hit while waiting to cross the road.
Kemp is next due back in court on July 15.
