Galway, managed by Kate Geraghty, saw off Mayo in Connacht before beating Meath, Tyrone and Mayo again, then dismantling Armagh by 21 points to eight in the semi-final – an average winning margin of 16 points across their last four games. Kerry, driven by Síofra O’Shea, won a Munster final, hammered Tipperary by 18 points, beat Kildare and Meath and ended Dublin’s reign as champions with a 10-point semi-final win, hitting seven goals along the way. The LGFA’s adoption of the new rules that re-energised the men’s game has had a similar effect on the women’s championship, rewarding the front-foot football both counties favour. Galway are chasing a first title since 2004, having lost three finals since, including the 2019 decider to Dublin in front of more than 56,000 fans.
