It made for emotional viewing at times, but Joe Brolly’s ‘Perfect Match’ documentary raised the profile of a most worthy cause and touched the heart strings of even his most staunch critics.
The ‘Opt For Life’ documentary aired last night, telling the story of Joe Brolly donating a kidney to a man, Shane Finnegan, whom he barely knew. While the operation itself was ultimately a failure, the programme documents the bond between the two men and the tireless work they are carrying out to raise awareness for organ donation in this country as the father-of-three seeks a new kidney that would dramatically change his life.
Brolly demonstrates all the characteristics that have made him such a charismatic and controversial TV pundit with passion, humour and honesty a constant feature.
The documentary has deservedly received high praise online and here are the reactions of some familiar names in the GAA world and their thoughts on ‘Perfect Match’.
