It’s like something out of Nightmare on Elm Street…
Fans will argue over whether it’s because advances in medical technology allow it or because folk simply aren’t as hard as they used to be, but protective masks and headgear are becoming more commonplace in sports these days, having been worn by the likes of Paolo Maldini, John Terry and Kobe Bryant in recent times.
While none of the ones we’ve seen look particularly pleasing on the eye, none of them have been quite as disturbing as the one spotted by JOE reader Gavin Judge when he flicked over to a basketball match between Bilbao Basket and Cedevita Zagreb on Eurosport last night.
We’re not sure whether it’s the mask itself or the sight of the player’s eyes through it that is so disturbing looking but it certainly gave us a case of the heebie-jeebies, as it almost certainly did to the opposition, who lost on an 82-77 scoreline to the Spanish side.
That’s the Halloween costume sorted then.
