Video: Arguably one of the worst assaults you’ll ever see in an ice-hockey game

And that’s saying something…

And that’s saying something…

Violence is not uncommon in the game of ice-hockey and rarely a game goes by that you don’t see at least a minor scuffle or coming together of some sort.

Because of that, people involved in the sport are fairly desensitised to a lot of stuff that goes on but nobody could fail to be taken aback by a quite shocking assault in a youth game at the Nike Bauer World Hockey Invitational earlier this month.

In a clash between the Toledo Cherokees and the San Diego Jr. Gulls, one of the Cherokees players responded to being bumped out of the way by hitting his direct opponent across the head with his hockey stick and then jumping on top of him to inflict more punishment with his fists.

The victim of the assault seemed pretty defenceless after the original blow and would have been able to do little to prevent the barrage of punches until his team-mates came into help and though we can’t see what eventually materialised, we would imagine and hope that the player responsible was given a fitting punishment for his crime.

You crossed a line there mate, crossed it big-time.
