Huawei’s budget FreeBuds 3i are very impressive

Huawei Freebuds 3i review

It’s a thumbs up from us.

Huawei launched their new affordable FreeBuds 3i back in April with an attractive price of just €99.

We took a look at their big brother last year, the Huawei FreeBuds 3, which we thought were a great option for users.

With the Freebuds 3i, Huawei have shown once again that they’re capable of producing some outstanding hardware.

At €99, while not an insignificant sum, you’ll get the FreeBuds 3i for significantly less than some of the others in class, and you certainly won’t be left disappointed.

What is it you get?

Well, you’re getting a more than decent pair of truly wireless earbuds with reasonably good sound quality, noise cancelling and a good microphone for calls.

Pretty decent, eh?

They’re not especially loud and the sound won’t knock you off your feet (you can’t really expect miracles for this low of price), but it is solid and I did think there was a noticeable step up in bass compared to last year’s FreeBuds 3, which is good.

They offer a different design than the open ear FreeBuds 3, with the 3i offering users a silicon bud which nestles more snugly in your ear. A welcome change for those who have the heart stopping moment of thinking they’d lost the FreeBuds.

This silicon tip also has a positive impact on the Active Noise Cancelling aspect by creating a seal to block out external noise.

You can expect in the region of three and half hours of battery with continuous playback and there’s another 14 hours of charge in the accompanying rechargeable case.

A word of warning to those operating on iOS, these only work with Huawei and Android devices, but connect easily once the accompanying app is downloaded. If you’re operating a newer Huawei device (with EMUI 10), you can get the pop up and pair option, similar to how iPhones pair with AirPods.

Should you buy?

There’s plenty to like about the Huawei FreeBuds 3i. They’re one of the best wireless earbuds with ANC available for under €100 that I know about.

Obviously Apple users will be draw to AirPods, but if you’re an Android user or, particularly, if you’re a Huawei user, you can’t go too far wrong at this price point.
