You can now ‘mute’ annoying people on Twitter

Thanks to a new feature on Twitter, you can ‘mute’ certain people so you won’t see their incessant tweets without having to ‘unfollow’ them.

JOE

Thanks to a new feature on Twitter, you can ‘mute’ certain people so that their tweets and retweets won’t show up in your timeline.

Great news Twitter users! You know what it’s like when there’s someone on Twitter who does nothing but complain about how crappy their day was, or how something was “OMG TOTES unfair, #literally!!!”. It’s worse when that person is someone close to you who would be a little upset if they found out that you unfollowed them on the social media.

Well there’s now a Twitter feature called ‘mute’ that will remove certain people’s Twitter activity from your home timeline without you having to ‘unfollow’ them.

Here’s what it says over on Twitter’s official blog: “Today we’re beginning to introduce a new account feature called mute to people who use our iPhone and Android apps and twitter.com. Mute gives you even more control over the content you see on Twitter by letting you remove a user’s content from key parts of your Twitter experience.”

“Muting a user on Twitter means their Tweets and Retweets will no longer be visible in your home timeline, and you will no longer receive push or SMS notifications from that user. The muted user will still be able to fave, reply to, and retweet your Tweets; you just won’t see any of that activity in your timeline. The muted user will not know that you’ve muted them, and of course you can unmute at any time.”
