Russian megabucks side Anzhi Makhachkala are reportedly hoping to add to their top class trio of Samuel Eto'o, Yuri Zhirkov and eh... Chris Samba with a €300 million summer transfer budget.
According to the first Sports Illustrated piece from The Times and The National.ae writer Duncan Castles, the ambitious Russian club are going for broke this summer in a bid to gatecrash the Champions League.
The team, overseen by both former captain and current team director Roberto Carlos and new boss Guus Hiddink, are bankrolled by billionaire owner Suleyman Kerimov and made former Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto'o an offer he couldn't refuse last summer (an eye-watering €423,000 per week). This summer they plan to do the same for multiple targets in the coming months.
According to writer Castles, Anzhi had reportedly been offered Frank Lampard, Carlos Tevez and Didier Drogba in recent months, while the club have more recently been proposed the not-so-tempting offer of Fernando Torres by the same Italian intermediary behind the Eto'o move.
The reported €300 million transfer kitty will likely be splashed on a summer yet ludicrously well-paid number of players, however, as the Russian league allows a limit of just six foreign players to be fielded at any given time. You can read more about the club's apparent summer plans here.
