The recently re-designed Light House cinema in Smithfield, Dublin has been listed as one of the world’s coolest cinemas by Bluoin Art Info’s website artinfo.com (the website for arty stuff). That’s in the whole world, not just Ireland folks.

The list of the coolest cinemas in the world included Archipelago Cinema (Thailand), The Busan Cinema Center (South Korea), Ciné 32, Auch (France), Matadero Cineteca (Madrid), The Mareel Cinema, (Lerwick, Shetland), EYE Film Institute (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and Cinémathèque Française (Paris).

The Light House Cinema was designed by DTA Architects when Smithfield went through a regeneration project in 2008. The cinema hosts four different screening rooms, with each in various colours. There’s a red room, blue room, multi-coloured chair room and the multi-coloured wall room.

The rooms are below ground level making phone signal difficult to retrieve, thus making your cinema experience a quiet one (in terms of bleeping and ringing). Plus it’s the one cinema we’ve frequented that actually has comfortable seats.

The Light House is also a venue for the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival this year and can be rented out as a venue too. Congratulations to the Light House! We agree that you are the coolest cinema we know.
