So Jonathan Walters had a pretty awful weekend, but he wasn’t the only one…
OK, so Ajax forward Siem de Jong didn’t score two own goals and miss a penalty in the same game, but he was responsible for one of the worst misses of the season so far during the tour of Brazil the Dutch side are on at the moment.
De Jong wasn’t helped by the awful state of the pitch against Vasco Da Gama, but that is still no excuse for a quite horrendous miss from fully two yards out as he skied the ball up and over the bar when it was ten times easier to score.
Even the commentator seemed certain he would score, but he had to adjust the inevitable cry of ‘Goooool’ into an elongated ‘Oooooooooh’ after De Jong failed to hit the target.
So De Jong didn’t have as bad a weekend as Walters, but seeing this might just cheer poor Jonathan up, even just a little bit.
