If you didn’t catch Ireland’s scoreless draw with Hungary in Budapest last night… then you didn’t miss an awful lot. Here are some of the ‘highlights’.

Despite the threat of postponement due to thunder, lightning and torrential rain in the Hungarian capital, Ireland’s final warm-up game before the Euros went ahead, although with the threat of injury to our key players looming large, perhaps everyone would have been better off it didn’t.

As it turned out, everyone came through the 90 minutes unscathed, with John O’Shea staying on the pitch for the duration and Shay Given taken off at half-time as a precautionary measure.

A clean bill of health and a clean sheet aside, there wasn’t a whole lot to get excited about as Hungary were the better side and probably should have been ahead at the break.

Ireland substitutes Simon Cox, Jonathan Walters and Stephen Hunt all made an impact and despite a couple of decent chances for Walters and Cox, nobody was able to break the deadlock on the night.

Croatian manager Slaven Bilic – who has watched Ireland in the flesh on four occasions and has yet to see us score a goal – was in attendance and won’t have been too frightened by what he witnessed ahead of next Sunday, but maybe that’s just what we want him to think.

Check out a brief selection of highlights from last night’s encounter in the video above.
