That must be some quality claret.
Former Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson has sold the first part of his wine collection for over £2.3million.
Fergie was always known to enjoy a glass or two with the likes of Jose Mourinho and Sam Allardyce after big games, but clearly saved the expensive stuff for a rainy day.
The 72-year-old was expected to make around £3m from selling his entire collection, but that sum will now be dwarfed by both a second and third auction in the coming weeks.
The most expensive of the lot was Fergie’s Methuselah bottle of 1997 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Romanee-Conti – it sold for a staggering £93,000, which makes us hope that nobody mixes it up for a bottle of Tesco’s finest.
