Clare booked their place in the All-Ireland Final today and were full value for their seven point victory over John Allen’s Limerick.
The Banner men will now play Cork in an all-Munster final and will have revenge very much on their minds after losing to their provincial rivals earlier in the summer, but will be buoyed by the 1-22 to 0-18 win against their neighbours.
In truth Limerick struggled to get going in the contest and their wide count in the opening period ended up costing them dearly.
Davy Fitzgerald’s side had a seven point advantage at the break thanks to their better accuracy in front of the posts and they also raised the green flag, when the ball was bundled in with Podge Collins and Darach Honan, plus the Limerick defenders battling for the ball on the ground.
The Treaty men made a brighter start to the second half, but could not claw back the lead and Clare themselves start pegging on the scores, with Colin Ryan finishing the day with 11 points to his name.
It was a tough day for Limerick supporters after losing the minor semi in extra time, but there will now be a frenzied build-up in Clare as they look to emulate the teams of 1995 and 1997 by bring Liam McCarthy back to the Banner.
