We’re not crying, it’s just been raining on our face is all…

Now this is pretty special.

US football fan Xander Bailey had his boyhood dream come true at the weekend when he had the chance to pull on the jersey of his beloved Seattle Sounders FC, train with the first team, and was even able to start their recent friendly against Tottenham Hotspur.

When the ref blew the whistle at the start of the game, 18-year-old Bailey, who suffers from Cystic Fibrosis — a Make-A-Wish recipient from Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia — headed off down the pitch with his hero Clint Dempsey and fired off a shot which was subsequently saved by RTÉ panellist Brad Friedel. He was then subbed off to a deserved standing ovation from the 55,349 cheering fans in the stands.

Grab the tissues and check it out…

And here’s his matchday experience in full… MORE TISSUES PLEASE.
