Costelloe came in for a barrage of criticism on social media as a result.
Irish designer Paul Costelloe has been heavily criticised for comments made about a number of female figures during an appearance on the Late Late Show on Friday night.
During the course of a discussion with Ryan Tubridy, Costelloe made derogatory remarks about Rod Stewart’s wife Penny Lancaster and Prince Charles’ wife, Camilla, while he recalled repeatedly addressing Princess Diana as ‘honey’ during a past encounter with the late Princess of Wales.
While talking about Rod Stewart, the conversation between Costelloe and host Ryan Tubridy proceeded as follows…
Costelloe: “I don’t like his wife, she’s a bit gawky, you know (laughs).”
Tubridy: “She’s a bit what?”
Costelloe: “Gawky. Sort of, you know, trying too hard to be the second or third wife. You know. Can’t stand it. Same as Charlie a little bit, you know.”
Tubridy: “Charlie?”
Costelloe: “Prince Charles.”
Tubridy: “You mean Camilla?”
Costelloe: “I mean whoever his second wife is.”
Tubridy: “It’s Camilla, isn’t it?”
Costelloe: “Thank you very much, yeah it is (laughs).”
Tubridy: “What are your thoughts on Camilla?”
Costelloe: “I think they’re very happy.”
Tubridy: “What do you think of Camilla?”
Costelloe: “Camilla is very small.”
Tubridy: “Do you think she wears clothes well?”
Costelloe: “I think she’s very small.”
Tubridy: “Do you think she’s well advised as to what she should and does wear?”
Costelloe: “I would think she is well-advised.”
While discussing a past encounter with the late Princess Diana, meanwhile, Costelloe recalled addressing the late Princess of Wales by saying: “Let me see how you’re looking, honey.”
“I didn’t bow, I didn’t call her ‘ma’am’, I was there going, ‘howya honey, you’re looking good’” Costelloe added.

During the broadcast, Costelloe also said of Victoria Beckham that he hopes “she’ll smile a little more” and “she’s a great little girl, you know, I hope she’s happy”…

#PaulCostelloe is out dicking himself (didn't think it was possible). #LateLate #LateLateShow. His attitude to women is foul.

So @PaulCostelloe says he had lunch with a woman who was quite nice. Sure that's alright then and makes him "pro women". #plonker #latelate
