Two Luke Kelly statues look set to be erected in Dublin city centre

Alan Loughnane

No arguments here…

Two Luke Kelly statues look set to be erected in Dublin in honour of the Dubliners singer.

Kelly passed away in 1984 at the age of 43, and according to Dublin Live, two statues of him will be erected in the city.

One of them will be in Luke Kelly park but the location of the other remains unknown.

Rumours suggest it could be placed on South Kings Street or near St Stephen’s Green, which would be his family’s preference, but the viability of this is in doubt due to concerns over the busyness of the area.

According to InTallaght, Dublin City Council have broken their own rules to allow two memorials in the city after Luke Kelly’s family were unhappy with the modern artwork that was commissioned by the council.

RTÉ aired a documentary about Luke Kelly last year that you can see a snippet of here.
