Rainfall warning issued for Donegal as weather takes a turn for the worse

More bad news on the weather front for Donegal.

rainfall warning

It’s not looking great for the rest of the country either.

Donegal looks set to bear the brunt of a miserable couple of days for parts of the country on the weather front, with yet more heavy rain promised between now and Thursday.

Met Éireann has issued a status yellow rainfall warning for the county, forecasting heavy rain on Wednesday and accumulations of 30 to 50mm, with hilly and mountainous areas set to be the worst affected.

The warning was issued at 5pm on Tuesday and will be valid from 3am on Wednesday morning until 3am on Thursday morning.

Rain will begin to affect western and northern areas of the country in the early hours of Wednesday morning and after a dry start to the day in Munster and south Leinster, showers will gradually extend to those areas from Wednesday afternoon onwards.

If that doesn’t put you off the idea of venturing outdoors, then the strong and gusty westerly winds also promised for Wednesday will act as a further deterrent.

The outlook for Thursday and Friday, with dry, bright and sunny spells forecast, is a little more promising, although there will be a chance of frost due to temperatures dropping to as low as three degrees on Friday night.

“Changeable” is the forecast for the weekend, with light rain and plenty of “good dry periods”, which is about as good as we can expect given some of what we’ve had to put up with of late.
